I was very curious about the high ISO noise levels of the D7100 compared to the D600, especially in less than ideal light. Both are superb cameras, but the D600 is obviously going to show less noise at high ISO's - the question is "how much less"? I nearly bought the D600, but I wanted some of the features of the D7100, particularly the larger AF area, so that's what I got. Fortunately, a friend has a D600 so we were able to take comparison shots. Both cameras were set to standard picture control, with high ISO noise reduction turned off. The D600 used a Nikon 28-300 lens and my D7100 used a Nikon 16-85. We set both cameras to f/5.6, with the D600 as close to 75 mm as we could and the D7100 to 50 mm. We took all shots on the D600 at ISO 6400 only. I shot the D7100 at ISO 1600, 3200, and 6400, so I could see approximately where its noise level matched the D600. I took 100% crops from all of the images and have posted them in Galleries Home » Member » Toby01 » D7100 vs D600 High ISO noise. Sorry I don't know how to point the way to the album more clearly, but this is the first one I have tried to set up. Once I figure how to get those shots listed in this post, I will do so. In looking at the crops in CNX2, I would say that the D600 is about a stop cleaner, although there is some variation depending on the amount of light and the colors in the shot -- sometimes the difference seems to be a little more than one stop, sometimes slightly less. This magnification is pretty extreme for 24 megapixel cameras, so I have to say that I am very pleased with the low light performance of my D7100. In good light, it seems incredible.

If someone can explain how to get the shots from my album to show up in this post, I will try to do so with the like shots from the 2 cameras next to one another. Thanks.
