This is a mini review of my findings on the cameras first outing. Not very scientific, but though some may be interested.

Arrived yesterday and managed to get out today to test the camera. I am hoping the clarity in the first and last images demonstrate that the 24-70mm f2.8 is razor sharp with the camera.

The first image taken with the x1.3 crop the last image is not. Apart from leveling the horizons these are straight out of the camera.

The third image is taken with a Tamron 70-300mm f4 - 5.6 Di VC. This was slightly disappointing, but will try my 300mm f4 and 70-200mm f2.8 soon.

The final image is with my Sigma 50-500mm OS. Taken from approx. 70ft with the camera on x1.3 crop. Now the really good news, it was taken at ISO1250, ISO noise is negligible.

The great news for me was that my Sigma 50-500mm OS worked, so no need to re-chip My conclusions are that the Nikon lenses at shorter distances work great. I need to do some work on my technique with the 3rd Party lenses.

What do I like? Better in every way than the D7000 (which I never really liked). Really like the x1.3 crop facility. The removal of the AA filter appears to give sharper images post processing. The new viewfinder is a great upgrade. It seems to handle ISO noise better than the D7000 too (something I notice on deep crops). The feel of the camera is ergonomically better and feels more like my old D300. This is mostly down I think to a deeper grip which because I have enormous hands I really appreciate that small change.

Although it's work in hand my early conclusion is that I am thus far as happy as I was with my D800 on its first outing and that's high praise indeed
