I realize the WU-1a has a little bit more functionality, but it has several downsides as well. I think it's position makes it a liability for damage or loss. Not to mention the fact that it's just not available right now. Will anyone be using the Eye-Fi for real-time picture transfer or other usess?
That's timely. Last evening I gave a talk on Eye-fi at my local club. I demonstrated how it would work via the home network, hot spots and more interestingly via direct mode to an iPad. It went well. The big advantage is that the card can be reformatted and moved from camera to camera and even a different make camera and works well. This would be a great advantage over the WU-1a
It's great for training and lecturing purposes as you state Eric. I've used it whilst taking NEF and jpg when out doing landscape shooting and it gives me so much more than checking the rear display for the histogram
