I have set up non-CPU lens data for this lens and assigned it non-cpu lens #1, assigned the function button to non-CPU lenses, and then chosen the lens with that button. I set mode as Manual or Aperture priority

As I change shutter speeds, the Viewfinder's exposure indicator varies in the increments you would expect, out to the over/under exposure limits of the scale.

But if I change the aperture using the lens aperture ring, the exposure indicator just jumps around nonsensically -- a little plus, all the way minus, etc. Needless to say, if I shoot a picture it may or may not be properly exposed.

What am I misssing?

Everything seems fine when I have my AF-S 18-200mm mounted.
