I couldn't let all you have all the fun, I just bought a D7000 an hour ago, and charging the battery now. So far it seems very responsive and quick on AF, but seems so little without the grip...will order a 3rd party grip today.
I got it at a small but well equipped long time camera store where I am visiting for a couple weeks, near Sacramento. I like to support the locally owned stores before they all disappear. It was MSRP $1199, the same as the mail order shops.
First impressions compared to D90:
Quiet
Small
Dense
Fast AF
Low noise at 2500
Colors hold up well at high ISO
The VF seems brighter, the 100% is welcome.
WB is more accurate in incandescent and florescent.
Needs having the sharpening raised, at least as much as the D90 did.
Battery charges fast.
Increased AF speed noticed most on D lenses.
Love the more flexible and logical AF mode button+wheels.
AE-l/AF-l button too far towards the VF for easy AF-On, but perfect with grip in vertical orientation.
AH is nice touch, set it to Fn
Needs grip to balance well with 70-200vr
It appears that I don't get to screw up my AF tuning...all lenses have with me seem to be spot on(70-200VR, 85 1.4D, 35 1.8 and 10-20 3.5)
Ch mode seems a lot faster than 2fps higher than the D90.

So far, so good. Nice camera. Even in JPG looks like a lot more DR in same exact scenes as I tried before on previous trips with the D90.
