The NoVA chapter has scheduled a photo walk at Huntley Meadows Park on Saturday, September 18th. at 7:30AM.
Huntley Meadows Park 3701 Lockheed Boulevard, Alexandria, VA - Visitor’s Center phone number: (703) 768-2525 “a nice little park tucked away into a little-visited corner of southern Alexandria”
Directions to the Park: From the D.C. Beltway, take Beltway Exit 177a (Richmond Hwy., Route 1) south 3.5 miles. Turn right on Lockheed Blvd. Go 0.5 miles to the park entrance on the left at Harrison Lane. (See map on page 2.)
Meeting location: After entering the park gate, drive roughly 0.2 miles to the parking area and park in the spaces at the far end of the parking area (or as close as you can find open spaces there). We will meet near those far end spaces close to where the trail starts.
Kudos to John for coordinating all of us here to form the latest chapter! We are very excited to spread the Nikonian forum with our neighbors - to meet new friends and enjoy the world of Nikon photography. In this area we are very fortunate to have so many photogenic locations.
Huntley Meadows is a naturilist park in southeastern Fairfax County, VA. There are boardwalks through wetland areas nearby the Potomac River. Its a birders paradise with also macro opportunities. We hope to see all the local Nikonians there the morning of Sept 18.
Kudos also to Tom for putting together the PDF with the helpful information.
He invited me to the outing and to the new chapter. Now that I see that the outing is ideal for macro and birders, don't be surprised when you notice that I'm looking for every other kind of photo op; my equipment is suited for everything in between the two.
I look forward to an introduction to Huntley Meadows and to all of you.
Welcome! It's been awhile since I v'e been there but I would say "scenic landscape" opportunities also exist as well as candid shots of local chapter members! I think we are a friendly bunch that would share equipment - a great way to feed the NAS bug.

Folks, I checked out our upcoming event location yesterday, and have some comments regarding the event and one pic to share.
The water level is low of course, but there is still lots of water and wildlife.
The shooting locations are not quite as plentiful as I had previously listed because the cat-tails seem to be higher than when I was last there. I don't think anyone will be disappointed in the views though.
The most significant issue I want to mention is that getting there may not be as easy as previously implied. There is lots of construction on 495 and I had a very round-a-bout path following my dash GPS (it's 3 years old with no update) and I had only been there once before. Some of you will be more familiar with the are than myself however so maybe you will get there easier.
When I first plugged Huntley Meadows Park into my GPS it showed two locations: one as a park, and one as a monument/historical area. Of course I chose the park. But it turned out to be the wrong area of the park. The GPS took me to Area 3 at the intersection of Telegraph Rd and Rte 633 (S. Kings Highway). This was the wrong location. I then drove about 2 miles east on S. Kings Highway and turned right on Harrison Lane, and after driving about 1 mile south on Harrison you will find the entrance to the area we are going to.
