Thank you and yes, 15 minutes of fame does feel good! And I did post it in a new thread a couple of weeks ago -- once I figured out how to post and upload! It took me a while to it figure out. I really appreciate all that I learn from you all. C & C is always welcome.
I do not know if that counts: I just got an e-mail to tell me That I was the winner of the month (January 2010) in the photo competition of the Travel Photo Review Magazine. Does having six of my images published in the liner notes (with credit) of a Celtic Rock Band's most recent CD count? I got the back cover and the "under the CD" spots. See it here (the desert image that flashes when the site loads is one of them)
I wanted to share that my son is now getting published. I hope that is OK. I started teaching him photography around 10, with our first digital camera, a Fujian Finepix 3800. Every concept I taught him, he grasped and immediately put to work; composition, exposure, depth of field. In February he started on a trial basis, as a photojournalist for the University of Washington newspaper, The Daily, and quickly proved himself, becoming their youngest Staff Photojournalist, at the age of 15. Having taken photography and design classes at the UW, with a natural and curious eye, he has passed up my skill level, making me a proud, though slightly jealous, father. As you could probably guess, to be a University student at age 15, he is both rather smart and an excellent student. Add in earning his Black Belt in Taekwondo, (when he was 10), on the same day as his mother and I, giving him that extra confidence that he can accomplish anything, we have very high hopes for him. His published photos are also online at http://dailyuw.com/author/kristian-randall/ for this who wish to see what a 15 yr old photojournalist creates. He just celebrated his 16 birthday, for which I gave him a Nikon SB-700 Speedlight, with two sets of high capacity batteries, and a few other accessories for his Nikon D300s. He earned the right to a better camera than my D80!
Had a good spring so far: Cover of Spring issue of Washington Tasting Room Magazine; cover and article photos in May issue of Westways Magazine (Triple A of Southern California); Spring issue of Nature Photographer magazine; April issue of Northwest Travel magazine; photos in Woodinville Wine Update accompanying article on my latest exhibit "Art from the Vine"; April issue of Smooth Jazz magazine along with Cjazz.com.
I had a question about this forum. I have had 3 images over the past year chosen as photo contest finalists in the Daily Herald (Chicago area), with this week being the most recent. Weekly, 12 images are chosen as finalists and 3 of those 12 are printed in the Sunday edition of the Daily Herald. All 3 of my images have been selected to be printed. Since they have been published in one of the top 3 newspapers in Chicago, I was wondering if they would qualify for this forum?
Hello, Let me first apologize if I am out of line in posting in this forum, I could not find a better alternative if I am in error please forgive me.
I was honored to have been chosen as a national semi-finalist in the recent Bombay Sapphire Gin ( Bacardi ) 'Artisan Series' emerging artist award. Nationwide tens of thousand, submitted their work, photography was one of the art medias considered, therefore, having been chosen to represent the art of photography has been the highest point of my career in photography and needless to say, an honor to have been recognized nationally. Thank you for allowing me to share this accomplishment, being completely self-taught, I would like to convey to the non-academic photographers, that it is not essential to have a degree in art to be considered an artist.
Yours in the arts, jacquefoto aka; jacqueline fitzgerald ruiz
Hi all, I got a great surprise 2 days ago, after the publication of the results of the "2012 PSA-China International Exhibition".
Though one of my photograph was only "accepted" (with a very good score however !), the chairman of the contest contacted me directly to inform me that due to the very high quality of my submitted image, it had been decided to join it (printed) to the official exhibition in Beijing, early 2013 !
I wanted to share this news with you Here is the image:
