I'm curious about how many shots one can expect to get out of a D5100 before it's junk. Not looking for a number like 263,521 but some kind of ball park like a hundred thousand, half million, million, etc. The reason I ask is I shoot a lot of birds in continuous mode and this past weekend I fired off about 1500 shots in one day and am wondering just how long the camera can keep this up.

100,000 actuations is not necessarily the limit of the shutters life.
Most continue working long past their design life. Others don't make it to 100,000 actuations. I know of D70's that are well in to 7 figures that are still working.
Of course there is no Guarantee.
