I am new to Nikon , I set the camera to 39 zones if focus but I can't figure out how to move between zones. my camera seems to only have the focus set on the middle area? Is there a setting that will let me move from one spot to another to focus rather than moving the camera?

Welcome to Nikonians!
Did you try pressing the up/down or left/right side buttons on the Multi-Selector while pressing the Shutter Release button half way?

Or use the multi-selector just after half-pressing the shutter release. (To change the main focus point the camera needs to be in an "active" state.)

On many Nikons there is a small lever on the back of the camera that controls a Focus Lock switch. When the indicator is turned to L - it locks the focus point and it cannot be moved. It's easy to nudge this indicator by mistake - I do that a few times a year.
