I had a D3000 for some time, and from nothing started to act funny. Buttons and release don't work when they should, some very wierd things. But the camera takes pictures ok, mode wheel works ok, etc. I'm thinking maybe the firmware got corrupted somehow. Made a reset with the switch close to the usb connector but no change. Now i can't move forward from the time and date setting, (only way is to remove battery for a second leaving the power switch on).
I'm currently traveling, i'm in Ecuador and i don't have access to any official nikon repair service. Maybe someone knows a way to re load the firmware (there isn't any at the nikon site). It's the only thing i think i can try, but nikon refuses to send me the firmware or procedure to do this.

There is no update shown available for the D3000. There is no way to obtain a reload version of the firmware. I am sorry to say I suspect that your symptoms suggest that there is a fault in the camera and that a service may be the only way forward.
