I want to do some macro work with my D3100 and the Nikon Micro 105mm 2.8 AF-D lens. Is it possible to de-activate the pop-up flash so I can shoot in the Macro mode without having the flash activate?
Is Macro mode not necessary or recommended with this lens?

Macro exposure mode only optimizes the exposure settings for shooting subjects close up. Just set the camera in P,S,A, or M exposure modes and the built in Speedlight will not pop up unless you activate it yourself. Keep in mind that lens will not AF on your D3100.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
