Capture tethered and ND filters
I started learning the basic of photography with p90 about a year ago. Now Ive moved to the entry level dslr -d3100. Bought this camera for more than two months now and had taken a variety of photos. Im more interested in landscape photography. Questions: 1. is there a way i can shoot tethered with this camera (window-based),
2. Cant affor Vari-ND at the moment, thus which ND filter would suit, say waterfalls and streams in the forests?

If you have a Windows system there a number of free programs that can trigger the camera and transfer the images. Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 does not support the D3100. You could also look at the OxfordEye products.
Have you looked at using Graduated ND filters or ND filters?
You can also use Circular Polarizing filters for waterfalls.

I would get two filters: a circular polarizer and a 3 stop ND filter. You can use both together to get around 5 stops of ND, plus a polarizer is very helpful by itself for many scenes.
