Nikon D5000 Autofocus Problem ! Help!
I got my camera for 2 Months now...I use the standard lens 18-55. These days The lens while trying to focus is making a high-pitched squeaky noise and the focus is jumping all over the place on all of the different autofocus settings. I saw somewhere that people have similar problems and that the autofocus is about to die???? On manual settings, everything works perfectly but the switch to autofocs is maddening. Can anyone help me ? :(

First I want to welcome you to Nikonians.
Have you already tried to clean the contacts of the lens and camera ?

Welcome to Nikonians!
When the problem happens is the ambient lighting level good and does your AF target have sufficient contrast? See page 55 of the D5000 Users Manual: Getting Good Results with Autofocus.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
