I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post in, but here goes..
I have a Vivitar 90-180 mm f/4.5 macro zoom. Unfortunately, it is the non-AI mount. What are my options for using this on a D200? I presently have it mounted on a Nikon FM, as that body will handle the lens, with stop-down metering.
If I found a junk AI version of this lens, could I swap the mounts?
Thanks for any ideas.

I've used a Nikon F mount Vivitar S1 70-210 f3.5 on a D80 without a problem. My understanding is that most 3rd party F mounts don't have the issue of damaging DSLRs line the Nikkors. The D200 has additional features that the D80 doesn't have so it may not be safe to use. Be careful and try searching the web a little more. Flickr have a Vivitar series 1 group and a Nikon manual focus group where you could post this question.
I don't know if the mounts are easily switched but I do know that Vivitar did update the lens mount on many of their lenses I have several that are labeled N/F mounts but are clearly N/IA mounts.

As inexpensive as great AI lenses have become, you may want to consider spending some money on a used lens that will provide a better final solution than spending money on the conversion.
