I'd like to know more about manual focus lenses with cpu contacts. Which ones are considered P lenses? I have an interest in replacing my Sigma 150-500 lens with a manual focus lens. I'd also consider a P lens at shorter focal lengths.
Yes Mark, the other chipped lenses you see are mostly DIY jobs. It's not something I care to do myself but some of the guys are good at it and chip all their lenses. The 400mm f3.5 was never chipped by Nikon. But the AI-P 500mm f4 is an excellent lens that would probably fit your requirements. It seems to be available from KEH most of the time but it's not cheap.
Good one, Michael. There was an article about this lens when Catholics around the globe were waiting for the new Pope and this lens would catch a photo of him emerging from the Pope's residence balcony. I had no idea it contained a CPU. What a lens!
I just did a little research on it and see only 15 were produced to special order for the price of $75,000. in 1990.
