I know the D3 allows you to choose 5:4 format as one of the shooting options. So, I thought I could use the grid lines feature of the D700 to approximate the same thing. The problem I'm having is having a little too much room around the subject which causes me to crop the picture to a 5:4 format. Not a huge problem, but an extra step.

I currently frame my subject within the grid line box that surrounds the focus points. This assures no feet/heads will be missing when I crop to an 8x10 print.

However, I'd be curious to know if anyone here has used the grid lines in another way to achieve a tighter in camera crop.

Thanks.
