My D700 would not power up. I used two freshly charged batteries with no success. I took the battery out and inserted into my Nikon grip and it successfully powered up. I removed the grip and inserted a battery into the camera battery compartment. Camera powered up successfully.
However, the display shows "CHA" using a Sandisk card. I switch to several cards with no success. Without a card in the camera, I have no problem focusing and taking a picture. I am thinking that I may have bent one of the pin because I remember having to force the slot cover closed. Would a bent pin cause the camera to not power up? Anyway, going to drop it off at the Nikon service center on Monday. If it is a bent pin, is the repair going to be expensive?
If it is a bent pin than depending on what pin/s could be bent than it could cause a no power up condition. use a flash light and look in the card slot, you should be able to see the bent pin if that is the issue. as far as cost I think it was listed here some where before. I want to say it involved a new board and something like $500.
