The following problem almost ruined my latest photo trip. Even Google doesn't seem to have an answer for this so I turned to the experts here.
In the Mirror Lock Up mode (MUP), one of the dials, I've yet to determine whether the front or the rear, sometimes changes the image quality when I am trying to change the aperture or shutter speed with one of the dials. As a result, I have been left with BASIC JPGs a couple of times and lot less hair due to tearing, until I realized what was going on.
Is there something that I'm doing wrong, a setting that can be changed to stop this or is it the time for the camera for a trip to the repair shop?
I've fat fingers too but it happened too many times to be just fingers. The remote shutter release was attached though, not sure if that had a role to play. I couldn't replicate the problem in my home.

I'm not sure you understood the issue I was trying to explain. I can start with any setting (RAW or RAW + JPEG) but because the camera cycles through the list when I rotate the command dial, I could end up on any one. It's basically rolling a dice. A few times I landed on RAW + JPEG, other times on JPEG medium and JPEG simple. The behavior is similar to pressing the QUALITY button and rotating the dial except that I did not consciously press that button.
You can hit the Quality button or any other button above the shutter mode dial 100 times and unless you turn the command dial you won't change anything. Is it possible that when you hold the camera, while going into MUP mode, that you hold the camera with your right thumb resting on the command dial and maybe moving it and pressing the Quality button at the same time? That's the only thing I can think of that would change the file quality. From now on make an effort not to touch the command dial and see if it happens again.
The only other thing is the Quality button has an intermittent short and rotating the command dial changes the file quality. If that's the case then the camera needs a repair.
