Help me understand how to correctly expose for black, and not produce any excessive noise. Or are the two things unrelated?

I don't know anything about the subject, or even if it is a subject, but I do note that a histogram may not be of much help.

Let me ask the question another way: if I have a black background and use an exposure aid like an ExpoDisk for a good incident light reading, will this really be the optimal exposure in terms of noise in the background?
