D700 still a smart purchase?

I currently have a D7000, but all my lenses are FX and I've been planning on upgrading to an FX Body. My original plan was to keep the D7000, give it to my wife and throw a 18-200mm on it for her. She basically shot that down indicating that she has no desire to lug that camera around. She would want something like Fuji X100 at the largest.

So now I'm debating, do I sell my D7000 and purchase a used D700 or do I wait it out and purchase a D800 (or whatever the replacement is) when it comes out? I'm not a fan of purchasing something on the falling end of the products lifecycle, but at the sometime D700's seem to be rather reasonably priced in the used market.

I'm sure the D700 with a low shutter count has years of use ahead of it, I'm just not sure it's the best purchase right now. Thoughts?
