I've been pouring over this battle between jumping from my D90 to the D700 for a while, mostly in these forums, due in part to a wicked case of NAS that is rearing it's not-so-ugly mug... but also to satisfy my thirst for a) shooting in low light/bad light (my daughter plays indoor volleyball... enough said) and b) speed, my wife competes in triathlon.

My current lens line up is 16-85, 50 1.4G and the 70-200 VRI. As you can see I'm not heavily invested in DX glass. I use the 16-85 as a walk around lens (and on DX that extra reach is nice sometimes) and I like it a lot for that purpose, but I just love the other two, even on my D90. Judging from the "I Want to Sell" forum... the market for a used D90 isn't overwhelming... I suppose I may be able to trade it against the purchase of the D700 at my local camera store, but I can't believe it'll fetch much... if anyone has an idea what that might bring I'd love to hear it...

So I guess the question before the house is do I sell the D90 with battery grip/16-85 combo and use the funds to offset the D700? I know I give up video (but truth is I've used it once in the year I've owned the camera), a couple of megapixels, the 1.5 crop extra reach (which is great on the long end but makes the 16 not so wide) and maybe more that I'm not aware of... but is it worth the low light/speed gains, and again, more that I'm not aware of, that I can I expect vis a vis the D90? Love to hear the thoughts of others who may gone through this.

Oh and then what to do for a walk around lens? Ahhh... NAS never sleeps!

As always, thanks for your thoughts and help!

~John
