We have a D700 combined with a 50 1.4, 28-105 3.5-4.5 and 70-200 2.8 VR. We are starting to get some requests for our work for weddings, kids, baby belly, newborns, studio stuff, etc. We are in the process of buying another camera so we can both shoot at events as my wife and I are both equally capable photographers. My first thought was to just go with another D700 for obvious reasons however there are only a couple of churches that we would shoot weddings in that would require an ISO of 1600 or more. We just shot a wedding with the 700 and I tried ISO 3200 just for a few shots and the results were amazing but then again we will be doing more general photography for people than weddings.

I really have my heart set on a 24-70 2.8 and we can't afford both right now so I was thinking about getting a D300s and the 24-70 OR just getting another D700 and waiting on the lens. Would the D300s produce results that are good enough at ISO 1600 that it would be worth investing in it and the 24-70? I want a camera that can be relied upon in case an emergency happens and the D700 dies on an important shoot. Just wanting some opinions on this as I always think investing in glass is important.
