Yes Simon, it goes on the D700 just fine. Just unscrew the old eyecup, which is pretty minimal I admit, peel off the rubber part from it revealing the inner metal ring, then put the new rubber DK19 eyecup onto that ring (you first have to also remove the DK19 rubber part from it's respective ring). Finally, screw on the new eyecup/old ring setup.
Yes, it works as fine as in the D3. BTW, what do you guys think about adding a DK-17M? I know the viewfinder is big enough, but would the DK-17M make it better or should we leave it to the smaller DX bodies?
Note that while the DK-19 does indeed fit the D700 it does suffer the same problems to the D3. Both FX bodies have large finders which protrude backwards beyond the plane of the LCD screen. As such any eyepiece is much more exposed than on the likes of the D2X and if fitted on it's own it's likely to get knocked off quite often. Stacking the DK-19 around the DK-17M such that the DK-19 is held in place behind the rubber lip of the DK-17M should help to secure it more effectively.
>I'm just afraid the DK-17M will not work well on the large >viewfinder. I hear some people complaining about vignetting. >
I have the D700 and have tried the DK-17M which fits along with the DK-19 eye cup. Unless you press your naked eye tightly flush with the eyepiece, you will not be able to see the corners of the viewfinder along with the information below in the viewfinder. I decided that, for me, just like in my D3, to leave the magnifier off. While it worked great for the DX D2 series, the FX viewfinder is a different animal... and a way better one.
I remember the DK-17M fit the F6 but is it backwards compatable to the F4, are the threads the same so I can user my old F4 adapters on a new D700 like the 2x magnifyer for copy stand work or does the D700 allow real time viewing in the rear LCD? Can the D700 feed live image to PC for close up work or such?
Just wondering for those that have the eyecup falling off if you are using the metal ring supplied with it or not? The first time I got one I forgot to use the metal ring that comes with it and I did experience the cup falling off frequently. After getting another I put the metal ring on and have not had them fall off at all.
DK-19 & DK-17M & anti-fog eye pieces all work fine. I pop the rubber cup in on itself when I put the camera in the bag. Making sure that the metal ring is tightly connected will prevent the eyecup coming off. Ditto with the slipping DK17M through the eyecup.
This has worked on my D2X's, D3 and now D700 just fine.
DK-19? Strange, I use the DK-2, as on the D3, and the D2X and F6 and F3HP before, and it fits perfectly. And I've never had one fall off. Of course, I use the metal ring. Is the DK-19 the second coming of the DK-2?
I guess there must be something different about the DK-2 & DK-19 but it's not obvious to me.
What I did notice is that I just got a new DK-17M this week and it came with an extra outside sleeve on it. I don't recall having this with my previous DK-17M's over the years. Is this new or have I just forgotten it came this way?
