I have the same frustration as others with Capture NX not reading the NEF files from the D700, so, I was trying to convert the NEF's to JPG's in VIEX NX. The problem is, it isn't working!!
I select the NEF files from a particular folder, and follom the prompts to convert the files to jpg. At the end you click to export them, and then nothing happens. I have followed the instructions, which are pretty clear, but it isn't working.
Anyone else having any issues converting D700 NEF's to JPG's in View NX???
Another issue, I am thinking of using the $109 it would take to upgrade to NX2 and putting it towards Lightroom. Any opinions there would be appreciated as well.
I highly recommend buying Lightroom 2.0 from Adobe. It is a brilliant program and allows total control of the raw file. Lightroom 1.x does not (yet) read NEF files from the D700, but works fine with D300 NEF's. However the problem is fixed with Lightroom 2.0 and images are uploaded fast and furious. No problems (yet).
I too get an "An unexpected error has occurred" when I try to convert a D700 NEF image to jpeg using ViewNX. I'm sure there are plenty of workarounds and 3rd party solutions availible BUT I want ViewNX to do what it's supposed to do. Does anybody have any answers?
What operating system are you using? I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and now get a message that Capture NX2 is unable to open any NEF file, not just my 14-bit NEFs from my D700, but also 12-bit NEFs from my old D80.
I had a look on Nikon's support area and they say that their software doesn't yet fully support Snow Leopard, but will in the near future.
So I'm using Lightroom at the moment, but the only problem there is that it doesn't fully support Nikon's camera profiles. It does have some approximations, but obviously that is all they are.
That being said, I don't really use them, so the only thing I really miss is being able to use Control Points, but Lightroom does have selective adjustments, so not a huge issue.
My advice is to check you have the latest version installed and if using Snow Leopard, keep checking back regularly for updates.
Hi Karl, I am having the same problems opening files in CS3 with the D700. My work is backing up because it won't open the files. I tried updating everythng from Nikon to no avail. My workload s backing up! If you get the answer I would be very greatful on ideas to resolve the issue. Garry N
Hi George, I ent to Adobe web site and found the ACR 4.6 is now unavailable. Downloaded all updates that thought would work. Even downloaded a trial on CS4. I have a Windows XP sytem and usually download to CS3. All was fine till the 700 came around. What is peculiar is that I can open the raw files that are horizontal but not the verticle images. Any idea why??. Can't use the D700 till I figure this one out. Any way to find an ACR 4.6 to upload? Regards, Garry
