Hi Guys Have just acquired a D700 and starting to look at my lenes. What fish eye would you recommend. Also thinking of the new Sigma 24-70. What are your thoughts as usual I'm sure I will get expert advice.
I recommend the Nikkor 16mm f/2.8D fisheye. The Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG is a diagonal fisheye like the Nikkor 16mm and and the Sigma 8mm f/3.5 EX DG circular fisheye are two good alternatives. I use the Nikkor 24-70mm and am very happy with its performance. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
I'm using an AI'd 16mm f3.5 on my D700. For the use I get out of it I certainly have no complaints. It was a fair bit cheaper than the f2.8 fisheyes when I got it and its nice and sharp, even in the corners.
It lacks a little contrast straight out of camera but nothing you can't fix in post.
It certainly does a better job at the corners than my Sigma 12-24 (which of course isn't a fisheye)
I don't get a lot of use of the fisheye but I do love it at the right moment. The 16f3.5 stood me well in my film days and it still gets into the bag with the D700 for those fishy moments.
Thanks again for your comments. The fish eye is probably not as important as the 24-70 . It's a hard decision between the obivious Nikon and the Sigma and their sometimes doubtfull quailty control. Will have to research some more, thanks again for the input.
