OK, the situation is this. My granddaughter is swinging on a swing. I am about ten to twenty feet in front of the highest point of her swing. I have my D700 set on Dynamic Area Focus and Continuous Focus. My understanding is that the camera and lens should be locking on the subject, the person swinging, and adjusting the focus with each shot.

Almost all the shots are out of focus. A few,out of maybe 50 capture the child in focus, essentially a random result. In the past, when set to Dynamic Area Focus I have seen the little square focus points in the view finder indicating the points of focus when the shutter is depressed half way. I am not seeing these in the viewfinder at all.

What am I, or might I, be doing wrong?
