Hello all. I have read a lot of the threads on the d700 tendancy to over-expose.

Before I purchased the D700, I did a lot of reading and research and was initially considering the Canon D5 MarkII. When I saw that my lenses would work on the Nikon, it didnt take long to decide. The reviews of the Nikon were all great and nowhere in my reading did the tendany to over-expose get discussed. I found the disussions after seeing my blown out shots and googled "d700 over-expose". Saw lots about it after that.

I am going to provide you with my gear and hope that someone can help.

I have had the body for about three weeks. My initial shots (indoors at night, available light) were impressive. Good color, clarity and saturation.

However, a lot (most)of my outdoor shots are overexposed, and they overexpose a lot. Enough to be washed out with reds appearing brown or washed out.

Some shots (closeups) are so washed out you would swear they were done on purpose.

I am now taking a step back and my enthusiasm has diminished greatly because I think now I have to tweak a pile of settings so maybe I can have some confidence that if I go on a shoot that my shots will not be disappointly over-exposed.

I am wondering if my lenses could be contributing to the problem. Here is what I have:

- nikkor 28mm 3.5 manual focus, non-cpu.
- Nikon 50mm 1.8 series E, manual focus, non-cpu
- Vivitar 70-210 variable aperature, zoom, manual focus, non-cpu.

As you can tell, I moved from film (Nikon FE2)to digital three weeks ago.

Closeups with the zoom sometimes appear to be at least two stops over exposed.

Maybe I just don't know my camera well enough yet.

I know one thing, my past experience with Nikon has been great and I really want my enthusiam for photography to keep growing. But at present, I am tentative.

Regards,

Peter
