Wanting to start trying Raw shooting but have a question. I have PE6 on my mac, whenever download ACR and attempt to load, I get a message cannot open, adobe does not read this type of file. I know it is the correct version and for a mac. Am I missing something? Thanks
Hate to say it but my PE also says the same thing so I quit using it and started using NX2, iPhoto and Aperture. Adobe has an update but it always fails to find the source so it has never been able to get the update done.
ACR and other RAW converter software will only support certain cameras models. Each time a new camera is introduced the converter software must be updated to support the new cameras. The message you get indicates that the version you have installed will not support RAW files from your camera. Adobe list the camera models supported by each ACR version. Download the latest version for your software and see if this supports your camera.
If the latest version of ACR for your software does not support your camera you have two options. 1) Upgrade to the latest version of Photohsop Elements, or 2) convert your NEF file to a DNG file using the free DNG converter from Adobe and your current version of ACR will open the DNG file.
I may be explaining this wrong. I have not even started with the camera. When I download ACR to the computer then try and install, I get the Adobe does not recognize this type of file. Same thing happens with the DNG Converter.
The ACR plug ins are in a compressed library format, Zip for Windows and Dmg for MacIntosh. You have to remove the files contained within these libraries as explained in the Read Me file and the download pages.
If you have installed Nikon View NX or Capture NX(2), you may need to move Nikons ACR plug in from the Adobe plug in's folder.
Even though Adobe does not indicate any error fixes, I think it is prudent to upgrade your photo processing software as new versions or plug ins are released for your product just to make sure your software and ACR plug ins are up to date.
