I just got back from picking up my D700 at our local dealer... they matched B&H's price and they actually emailed me as soon as the FedEx truck dropped it off.
They got in two (with two SB-900's). They actually asked me if I would open the box so they could actually see the thing.
Can't wait to do some shooting with it... had to tell someone (nikonians) who would be excited... I showed my wife and she said "it looks just like the other camera you have"
First impression right out of the box is WOW the viewfinder size is incredible. Lots of news about the D3X floating around but the D700 looks great. (A little tid bit the dealer told me is the Nikon rep said the fps is going to be S L O W b/c of the 24mp sensor).
Who else got their D700 in and lets see some images?????
I hope that local dealer isn't the same one I thought might have a D700 with no waiting list. I was hoping to ease my way over to Auburn and check out C************s. I should have known better. This county isn't big enough for the both of us, Scott. lol Bern Carlisle
Well, I do have some film I need to drop off for developing and while I'm there, maybe I'll just look around and see what's available. In the meanwhile get to shootin' and post some pix on your site. Campus isn't crowded, how about a night shot of Toomer's Corner?

Tensai, those are great... thanks for posting them. I love the B&W too, with the colors of the last one to the B&W it shows a good range. What did you use on the last shot, the "standard"? I am going to load the new color modes Landscape and Portrait (plus the D2XMode II,III) today and give them a go on the D700.
I downloaded the new Portrait and Landscape color modes Nikon just posted for the D300 and those are great (they are already posted for the D700 too). At first I thought the Landscape mode was pretty dull but I found that night shots, taken in Landscape mode look pretty good (with the D300), and the portrait stuff is pretty dead on in low light stuff too.
Sure, might as well check it out while you are there
Funny, I did some night stuff of Toomer's Corner while I was shooting that shot of Samford Hall and just didn't like the way they came out. It was during the storm on Wednesday, there was lightening everywhere, thought it would be cool. They actually don't have any lights (or lit signage) and although it is far more quiet there now than in a month or two, I just couldn't get much of anything I liked. That just means I need to try again.
Honestly I didn't know there was another Nikonian in the area, nice to make your acquaintance
