Given the fact that I am leaning towards purchasing the D700, I am very interested in all the discussions regarding the best "walkaround" lens for the camera. The 24-120 kit lens seems to get mixed reviews. I see that some prefer prime lens like the 50 or 85 mm Nikkors, the 24-70 2.8 Nikkor, while others like the mid -range zooms from Tamaron 28-75, 24-135, and some like the longer Tamaron 28-300. I wory about lens and camera compatability. Any thoughts on these selections and is there a place where I can buy some of these lens used. Thanks you - Bob
Howard - Thank you for organizing the most recent repsonses regarding the lens selecton for a D700. I can't believe the volume, level of detail and expertise that I find on this site - it's truly wonderful. Bob

I suppose there is a reason to it. You read a hundred times more comments and reviews on bodies than lenses. So, information on cameras abounds, and lacks on lenses. Especially in terms of the better mix of IQ, convenience and price.

True, but only if you hang out in this forum. Jump to the Lens forum and you'll get a different point of view. Not too much talk about bodies there at all.
Personally, I think the Search feature on this site sometimes just sits around gathering dust. Then again, if most people just used Search to find answers here, this place would be really boring.
