Thanks, Scott! After posting this I showed it to my wife, who said it was too bad I cut off one of the wingtips of the jet. I tried to explain to her that I'd used the rule of thirds to put the nose of the aircraft right where it was supposed to be, but she still thought I should have included the whole aircraft from wingtip to wingtip. So, Scott, with your comment I have a 50% approval rating on this photo!
Thanks for the comment, Walter. It was obvious to me at the time that I could have included both wingtips, but chose not to. I liked the composition this way, but comments from my wife and you have put some doubt in my mind on that. Perhaps it would have been stronger had the whole aircraft been in the frame.
Perhaps related to this composition, I was just looking through a recent issue of FLYING magazine, and about half the aircraft photographs in that magazine cropped out one or both wingtips. Seems like it's not that unusual (at least, in one magazine dedicated to aviation).
