I'm not pinoy, but i was in the 'phils' for a week shooting and i'm gonna return, as a retiree, by the end of the year. loved the shots, so many memories (loved the food) and we can get san miguel in ithaca, but it's over 9 dollars a six pack.
Well, we were small schoolboys then. We think we set an unoffical world record one time by sticking something like forty of us in one tiny Toyota Hi-Ace van. Given the weight I've gained as a desk jockey over the years, I'd probably break the tricycle sidecar just by myself, assuming I could even bend down to get into it.
Been there myself. Just retiring after 30+ years in higher ed admin and teaching.
Love the phils so far, but being down in Mindanao...and not spitting distance from digos, davao, etc., I'm getting the idea that there's metro manila....and then there's the "other" phils.
Been in a few pedicabs in digos....interesting traffic/driving. Then I heard about 'fixers' when you go to get a license (some use them, not all). I'm beginning to get it. And now I remember why I had so much fun driving that rental car I had last spring from Manila to Bagiou and back down to Tagaytay. My hosts (my hon's family mostly) "chaperone" me almost everywhere I malalag, but I've ventured out on a motorbike and soon I'll be exploring and shooting more.
I'll be celebrating my 60th b-day here in the phils. i live in southern mindanao now (in the "poblacion" of malalag for those familiar with mindanao or davao del sur). I just shot the "araw ng malalag" and will post some pics here soon.
And the food. They're be a party on the 8th (my 60th) and they're be lechon (manok and baboy), adobo, and all the stuff here, fruit salad, buko salad...and the obligatory san mig/tanduay.
Hmmmm. If i ain't mistaken, this is a chain. There's a place with the same name at Gaisano Mall in Davao and, I think, I was in one up in Baguio...at a mall. But, in terms of the food, you're right on the money. It's really good.
