I'm bummed. I use my R2400 all the time and i'm stopped dead in my tracks for the past 3 days. Why? I installed Windows Vista OS on Monday evening. All works well except....yep. The Epson 2400's drivers do not come with Windows Vista and the Epson website doesn't have them for Vista either.
Help! Anyone try anything else? Epson says NOT to reinstall using the Drivers disk that came with the 2400.
First, if you installed the 32 bit version of vista you may try loading the drivers for XP. If you have the 64 bit version then they probably will not work. For my Canon iPF 5000 I have to keep an XP box on the network and I open the images in that and print. HP finally released a beta driver for the B9180 but Canon are really slow.
I did install the 32 bit version. I thought about what you suggest and wondered if the warning from epson, not to use the setup disk that came with the R2400 (set up for XP) assumed a 32 bit Vista installation. If so, do you interpret that to mean that trying to load xp drivers might work..or would they be blocked?
I mean that they may well in fact work. The inly thing that may be blocked is running the installation aplication. It may still be possible to install the printer and use the drivers that are on the installation disk when it asks you if you have a disk.
I would certainly try running the applicaion first to see if they have blocked it and then try installing the printer second.
I received a response from another forum that while the printer should work fine with the UK drivers, the displayed paper sizes may differ. A call to Epson Tech Support produced no information as the representative wsa unaware of the UK site and would not comment regarding using its R 2400 drivers.
I would be amazed if the page sizes were an issue. These are set at a higher level than the drivers. You can set the paper size from many places and usually I print on what ever paper size best fits the print. Go ahead. The worst that can happen is it does not work. And you can blame me.
I installed the UK 2400 drivers and they work. All papers sizes are shown except the dimensions for the photo papers are in milimeters rather than inches. The paper description is given, i.e A3, B2, etc. and the boxes of all Epson papers and most others give metric dimensions so all is fine.
I went to the UK site and downloaded drivers for 'other' countries. I didn't see drivers for UK. Everything worked except the printer monitor. it says i have insufficient memory. I have 1.5 GB on my computer and never got such a warning. It all seems to work, at least for basic printer functions. when use print preview from PSCS2, it sometimes takes me to my HP regular duplex printer and sometimes does not come back easily to my 2400. I'll try some tweaks. It does address the 2400 eventually though.
