I sold my Nikon 9000 scanner to a guy who is just beginning in film scanning, and need to advise him on which software he can use that will interface with the scanner. As I have not used it for years, I am not a good source. My nikon software no longer works with Mountain Lion on my mac, so I am not much help. Any advice here??
Ernesto is right. ...and a really good thing is that both companies offer free trial periods to test out their software.
VueScan and Silverfast have very different user interfaces and workflow/approach to the scanning process. Both are reviewed very well and I'm sure each is capable of producing high quality scan files. The best advice is for the user to test out each of them and choose the one that "feels" better.
I have been using Silverfast through several versions and I really like the power and control it provides -- but there was quite a learning curve to climb before I could get consistently good scans. The latest version of Silverfast has a newer (and, possibly, easier to learn) user interface that *might* reduce the learning curve somewhat.
