When I do a scan of a slide (or a neg) in my Coolscan V, the image is stored as a TIFF. In red on the TIFF is '2P', up in the left corner above the image. I think it means '2 pages'. Page 1 is just what I expect. Page 2 is the crummy copy. I only want what is found on 'page 1'. If I need to resize, I can do that myself.
If I try and scroll through the scans, after I've viewed the one I want to see- the next image is a duplicate pic, but greatly reduced in size and quality.
I don't want these 'thumbnail' size pics, as they greatly spoil the fun of scrolling through my scans.
If I modify a scan, and save it as a jpeg, I don't get this duplication.
Worse- if I try to delete the thumbnail like copy, I get asked if I want to delete both. So I can't even get rid of the damn things.
Does anyone know why this is happening or how to delete the unwanted copy images?
I read somewhere that there is always a 'preview' associated with a TIFF. How can I get rid of them?
I use Nikon Scan 4 and have never seen a double image file like that. I have not always explored all program options so if it is Nikon scan creating these secondary images they might have come from that source. I am not familiar with the other program so suggest that you scan one more slide or negative and see if you have that double image issue after using just Nikon Scan 4 There is an option to create small image files suitable for e-mail in many programs, however, I cannot find such an option within the Nikon Scan 4 that I am using.
Are you using a PC or a Mac? With a PC there is an option to 'Always show icons never thumbnails under Folder options, View which might solve your issue in the short term. Currently I have that option un-ticked so should see any thumbnails should they exist. However, running under windows 7 I cannot reproduce your issue and do not remember it (though I might have missed it) with Windows XP either. I have been unable to generate any observable thumbnails so far using Nikon Scan 4, either yesterday or today. The only thumbnails on my system have no association with Nikon Scan 4 and in fact I cannot trace any related to any of the images stored on this computer either.
