I think I really like my Epson 2200, but I'm already on my third light magenta cartridge, or I would be, that is, if I could find one. Two of the biggest stores here in Los Angeles were out of them today, so I guess it's not just me. And I'm still on the first of all but one of the rest of them. Is there an explantion for this?
I have access to practically every wholesaler in the US - as long as they have them in stock I can supply them - email me at firstname.lastname@example.org - just looked on line at my distributors and they have (collectively) over 2000 per color in stock of EACH cartridge - I can take credit cards - everything ships within 24 hours from the closest warehouse to your address - SHI is a 2 billion dollar plus IT software/hardware reseller - let me know.
Your ink consumption will vary by the images you print, but the light carts are used up more quickly. The full strength colors go farther.
Rather than look at this as a problem, realize that with the integrated cartridges, you threw out lots of good ink in the other colors when your light magenta (or whatever) ran out.
I'd suggest stockpiling a couple of the light colors when you find them and have at least one of the others on the shelf. I have access to several sources of the cartridges in my town, but it is wise to call to verify they have the stock on hand before running over.
If the big box computer stores don't have the carts (and the often won't), check with a photo retailer. All my ink boxes take up a lot of shelf space, but I always want a spare on hand. You can change a cart in the middle of a big expensive print and keep on printing.
Thanks guys. I've found that computer stores/office supply places don't carry the cartridges unless they sell the printer, and many of them don't, since it's a little over the top for the average point-and-shoot digital camera owner. The big camera stores carry them, but seem to be out of stock around here, and I'm going to contribute to the problem the first chance I get.
Yeah, I went to my local CompUSA store this weekend and quess what colors they were out of. LT.Magenta and LT.Cyan. Does anyone know a good internet source for ordering the cartridges? I know I probably won't save anything and maybe end up paying a little more but if I can't get these when I need them, it would be worth it to stock up. Actually I wasn't out yet but after doing some printing this weekend, I could tell they would be the first to go. I found out my local store gets shipments on Wednesdays so I'll hit there Thursday morning. I hope this isn't going to be an ongoing problem.
I got my new 2100 for Xmas (about 90 A4 prints up to now). My statistics for cartridge consuption are the following:
18 EUR / 0.54 EUR per page
18 EUR / 0.44 EUR per page
18 EUR / 0.22 EUR per page
* Photo Black:
16 EUR / 0.13 EUR per page
18 EUR / 0.15 EUR per page
18 EUR / 0.15 EUR per page
18 EUR / 0.11 EUR per page
(*) Estimated by extrapolation.
The total ink cost per A4 page seems to be 1.74 EUR. It should be smaller since the printer consumes a bit of ink on the very first time (e.g. my light magenta printed about 30 pages the first time, and 40 after). Official Epson costs in Italy are about 1 EUR higher per cartridge, but in selected resellers the lowest prices I've found are the ones in the table.
It's difficult to find cartridges in Italy too, but I found a reseller who has a good store; in case of shortage, Epson Italy sells and delivers consumables on line (www.buyepson.it but I can't believe it works only in Italy, there should be other international sites). BTW it's the only way to buy paper in rolls for me.

You are on top of the consumables. I should keep better track of mine. Is there a way to display pages printed on the 2200? On my big OCE printers, there is a nice page counter that you can access. Oce uses this to bill me by the page. It would be nice if the 2200 had something similar so that we could better keep track of our cost per page.
Boy, you can say that again about the light magenta. That's the first one I ran out of and looking back at my prints, I was printing night scenes in which I thought there would have been virtually no magenta
Anyhow, I am responding to suggest a source (assuming you are in the USA).
I went to atlex.com and it does have all of the epson consumables. But if you wanted to buy all 8 ink tanks, you have to cycle throuh no less than 32 web pages to add them to your cart. I gave up after two items. This is an exable of a web store gone bad. The site gets you to the right list of all items as quick as posible (great design). But then it only lets you add one item at a time to your cart and you must start all over again at the beginning in order to add each additional item (bad design).
