I currently carry a 15" laptop with a built-in card reader. I back up daily from the SD card, to the laptop hard drive and an external hard drive. I usually leave the images on the SD card as well until I get home. (Yes, I'm a little paranoid.)

At this point I have enough SD cards for several days heavy shooting.

How do you manage backup of NEF files, if traveling with just a tablet (like Ipad or an Android tablet) instead of a PC?

I just don't feel comfortable with an entire trip's photos on the SD cards and nowhere else.

This entire question has been raised by the fact that my NookColor e-reader is 2.5 yrs old, I don't expect Barnes & Noble to continue in the Nook business, and will at some point likely replace the Nook with a tablet. (Yes, I know the NookColor can be rooted to run like an Android tablet, just have no great interest in doing it, and no need to do it.)

I'm seriously considering an I-pad, either full-size or mini. Is there a feasible way to back up NEF files to the Ipad?

If I could back up to the tablet, then I would have an all-purpose device--e-reader (which I consider essential for travel) and a photo backup, thus eliminating 1 widget from my travel package.

After reading other questions about tablets here, let me add for clarification---I'm not concerned with showing photos to clients, or tethered shooting, or deleting the bloopers as I go. I mainly am concerned about backup. It might be nice to be able to convert to JPG & upload to the web, for quick posting or email, but that is not critical.
