I wasn't trying to be nosey. But every time I looked at your two previous avatars, I'd hear sniffling noises, and wanted to pass you a box of tissues. Also, I imagined you taking through your nose. The new one is an improvement for sure.
My avatar is a pirate for several reasons. I'm from eastern North Carolina. Our coastal area is steeped with stories of piracy. Our most famous pirate was Blackbeard. Blackbeard was not only ruthless, he was in league with the royal governor NC. This avatar is also the mascot of East Carolina University. I have thee degrees from that wonderful school! My children are also graduates of this wonderful institution.
I remember that thread. My avatar hasn't changed, it's still just a picture of me. I like to think it's an indicator that I'm pretty straightforward: this is me. But it probably means I'm too lazy to bother doing anything else.
Mine is a picture of the chimneys at a notable building in Barcelona, called "La Pedrera", also known as 'warrior helmets',as a tribute to Antoni Gaudí. who designed that building. I'm a passionate of the architecture of Gaudi, a well known 'Art Nouveau' architect who designed really peculiar buildings, including interiors, furniture, etc. Apart of the aesthetics of his designs, which one may like or not, with his inspiration on nature, he contributed with many technical design and constuction solutions, quite advanced for his time.
As I think Barcelona need much more promotion until we manage to get independent from such an inefficient country as it is Spain, I'll have to change to other Barcelona symbols....
All this discussion about avatars made me stop and think about what my avatar said about me. The conclusion I came to was that I must be dull, boring, unimaginative, etc, as I simply put in a picture of myself. I have now decided to be bold, adventurous, daring, whatever, and change my avatar to suit my username. Sound a bit fishy? Certainly looks a bit fishy!
Yes, I'm an "F"! An F fan that is Absolutely no doubt whatsoever what my favorite camera is! I had originally thought about using an entire F as my avatar, but it would have looked too tiny. So, I decided to go with the essence that identifies my favorite camera; its designated letter. This is a closeup shot of the letter F on the FTN Photomic viewfinder of my F.

Let's bring this back.
I just changed mine. It's now a picture of legendary sports photographer Walter Iooss when he was closer to my age.
What does that say about me? It says I enjoy doing sports photography, I admire Iooss's work (among others), and if you change just a couple of things in that photo (the type of camera being the main one) it might as well be a sort of doppelgänger or general image of a young photojournalist of today. Give him a D3 instead of an F, and cut his hair a bit shorter and make it look less plastered...you get the idea.
A multi meaning avatar (in french), either "the architect's sight or eye, or whatever" or "Seen much to much (in a bored fashion)"... The picture is an extract from one of my daughter's shoot of a friend's marriage on the Seine in Paris... I look quite "venerable" (meaning really old)... But then it's my daughter's view...
