Current Contest >> Updated August 4, 2016
Here at Nikonians we have 5 monthly competitions and our monthly photo assignment.
The contests and challenges are located in the Master Your Vision area of the forums. Each month a new theme is presented and a thread is opened for submissions. The following month 4 – 6 finalists (depending on the number of entries) are chosen by the previous months winner and a poll is set up for all members to vote. At the close of voting the winning images are posted in our Winners Gallery. The winners will be recognized in our weekly newsletter and will receive a printable Certificate of Photographic Achievement.
Our member driven contests are unique in many ways. Unlike most other photo contests the workings of our contests are transparent. Our members choose the monthly themes, all entries are visible to the entire community as they are posted and you are the judges not an invisible behind the scenes "expert." Judging begins when the previous months winner chooses 5 or 6 semi-finalists; then we create a poll and the entire community is given the opportunity to vote for the final winners.
Currently these monthly contests are the preliminary rounds for the Best Nikonians 2015 Photo Contest. So, if you want to participate in the of the big Annual Photo Contest for prizes > please be sure to enter one of the monthly competitions listed below.
We want to make your contests the best photo contests on the internet. So, please follow the links below, submit some images to the open contests and be sure to vote in all of the polls.
Our contests are open to Silver, Gold and Platinum members.
All registered members are allowed to vote in the contest polls.

Online Photo Assignments
The intent of the on line assignment is to challenge our members to become better photographers by providing a new assignment to fulfill each month. A big difference between this and the other forum contests is that the images must be shot during the month of the assignment.
This is a great opportunity for new photographers to build both technical and compositional skills. More accomplished photographers can use the assignments to expand their skills by tackling assignments that are outside of their usual photographic genre.
These are a great way to jump start the creative side of your mind!
August > Gritty
Poll for the July > Isolation
This post will be updated monthly to reflect the most current contest info.

Thanks for putting all contests in one place. It is sure to help get more voting, which is not well used by the membership. Please keep it updated.

There are many 'photographs of beautiful objects' but not so many 'beautiful photographs of objects'.

I have enjoyed all of the monthly contests here since I first joined Nikonians.
These contests have advantages that are hard to find anywhere else…
- Everyone can see all of the entries as they come in during the month
- For most of these contests a regular member, a previous winner, chooses the theme each month
- Members, again a previous winner, choose the 6 finalists in each contest
- All members have the opportunity to vote for the overall winners
These contests were set-up to help us all “Share, Learn and Inspire.”

So it seems that when I am about to make a second submission to a contest, the uploader indicates that I am about to upload all the submissions to date which of course I'm not, I only highlited the single file from my computer, clicked upload and all the pictures that are in the contest are attempted to be uploaded and of course it says that the number of attemped uploads exceeds the limit.

Is this in the Special Edition Contest?
That is odd - The first thing I would try is to clear the Browser's Cache and delete all cookies or try posting from another browser and see if the problem persists.
In the mean time I will alert the admin team of your post.

I've posted before and had no problems. There are other posts for the December contest that I posted to with similar occurrence - after the first post ALL photos that are listed in the forum are included and hence, blocked due to volume.

As a point of clarification, do ALL Nikonians contests use the SAME general rules in place for image uploading to the forums which went into effect Feb. 6, 2015, which are cut and pasted below. (Currently the text for the current Best of Nikonians, "Motion Blur" references the old 1200 pixel max, but does allow a 1MB weight.)
(From the post by JRP
Those dimensions have now (February 6, 2015) been expanded to 1,800 pixels X 1200 pixels (for horizontal compositions) and 1,200 pixels tall for vertical compositions with a maximum weight of 1,000KBytes (1MByte).
If you want your images to be appreciated by most members without scrolling we do recommend your images to be not taller than 900 pixels whether in vertical or horizontal composition to accommodate the full image in the most common resolution size of monitors in use by our members.
Also, on the Best of Nikonians page ( https://www.nikonians.org/html/contests/index.html ), the 900 pixel height is shown as a rule, not as a recommendation as it is above. Is that indeed a rule, that might result in a posted image being disqualified?
Thanks for all of your hard work!

Hi Dave, In the Master Your Vision forums the images can be posted any size within the standard image posing guidelines. I will require the winner to provide me with a 1200 pixel image for the winners gallery and to be entered in the year end Best of Nikonians contest.
In the Best of Nikonians I prefer to have all the images the same size. In those contest segments I need to upload 10 image into the Best of Nikonians gallery and it is easier if I have images sized ready for that final contest.
I didn't notice that 900px high images was mentioned on the contest page. Usually if we find an image that is not sized right I will contact the member and ask for a replacement image. I don't like to disqualify image, so I try to ensure that everyone gets a chance to fix their post in case of minor rule infractions.
Thank you for you contributions to our community. I look forward to your contest entries.

Thanks for the clarification Dave. That makes good sense to me. I have two entries in the current "Motion Blur" contest that I set at 900 pixels high, but I think they are a little wider than 1200. I will get those replaced ASAP. But I am out of my office until tomorrow, and my LR catalog is on my office PC.
The reference to the 900 max is in the 5th paragraph on the contest page. Here it is:
IMAGES SIZE. Images must be not taller than 900 pixels (regardless of composition), to ensure that 100% of monitors in current use by Nikonians members can fully display the images and view them without scrolling.
Thinking it through, depending on how an image is cropped, like a square crop, 1200 wide would of course need to be 1200 tall.
Since you want to see these EXACTLY 1200 on the long side, you may want to eliminate any reference to 900. Let the short side be whatever it needs to be.
