The Guides said this pit was made when one of Mount Etna's eruptions threw a massive boulder here. The scale of the humans walking on the ridge gives you an idea of scale. When it Etna does erupt, the towns down the mountain are in danger. During a previous eruption engineers were able to divert the lava and save a town below.
