I attended the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo yesterday. During the rodeo they had a tribute to Will Rogers. Shown in this photo is a fourth generation charro, Jerry Diaz. Diaz is recognized around the world for his expertise in horsemanship and dedication to the Charro traditions. They brought down the house lights and he was performing under two spotlights.
I took this shot with my D4 at 200mm,f2.8, 1/200 sec, ISO 4500. (handheld)
I like the soft lighting which enhances both the cowboy and his horse. My eye is drawn only to the cowboy and his horse. I like that there is both movement and freezing in this image. Good job on the exposure as well.
Wonderful job on exposure & composition; great motion freeze; the small touches of red that really pop from all the neutral tones; the semi-transparent vibrating lariat vertical section---all add up to just WOW.
I'm sure the performer would love a copy of this if you could get it to him! It would also make a great promo shot for the next rodeo.

Thanks to all for your encouraging comments.
Diane, I took your suggestion and contacted the performer via his website. His wife responded that she would indeed like to see the photo. After seeing it, she has requested it and others for their website.
That is great shot, and wonderful they want to use it on their website. I do have to ask though...did they offer to pay?Just Nosey. No need to say how much if they did. Or answer at all if you feel it is an inappropriate question. Either way you should be proud of that shot. I am mad though because you are making me want to spend money ...more like take out a loan..to get a D4 now before the PA Horse Expo at the end of the month! Oh well my D700 will have to do . I did consider renting a D3s ...
Hello Sheri, Thanks... I offered the photo as an 'acknowledgement only' gift. I had researched them and found that they perform all over the US and even worldwide. They have four major events just here in Texas annually. I did ask them to remember me if they ever had a special event that they wanted to photograph. One never knows what small favors can bring...
