Ferry terminals are about 30 km/20 miles from either city. We booked a Pacific Coach package at the airport on arrival.
Spectacular views, a long way to swim.
With a 500mm lens, this is already 10x magnified over a normal lens, with significant contrast and clarity boost in Lightroom. With my small 7*21 binoculars, I thought these were birds.
Let’s zoom (=crop) a little closer. This is seal’s whiskers from 0.5 km (0.3 miles) away.
Empress hotel. After sunset the slanted trees look like dragons.
Butchart Gardens. Mrs. Butchart converted an old mine to a fantastic garden. She was the person first called a “green thumb”. My wife likes pictures with lots of people. That’s me in the stairs, with the big backpack.
And my version. I wouldn’t go so far as calling me a sociopath, but I think that the beauty of this place is best presented without tourists. This is a montage of half a dozen shots, with the tourist-free parts selected.
Antero don't you wish we had a button on our cameras to just make tourists disappear? I think you have incorporated them well when they were present. It has been quite awhile since I have been to the gardens; I was still shooting film. I think your montage is great.
