Derek I like your image sooo much better than mine, but while you took this I would have been back on my riverboat. Great job and a wonderful lack of tourists. The nightime exposure and the view from this side really makes this one special.
Thanks fo the positive comments. I was only in Trier for an overnight stop whilst driving to Rothenburg ob der Tauber (of which I hope to post a few images of later). Trier is on my list to go spend some more time in (and robsb's images posted here reinforce this).
I had a suggestion that I should perhaps trying squaring up the image and I think that was good advice. So I used the Distort>>Lens Correction tool to try and do this. Personally, I think it improves it.
Very nice image. Well composed and, as others have said, the people help to give the image "size". It may look as you took it, but it seams to me a bit to "gold"... over saturated. I wonder what it would look lke if you backed that off a tad?
Hi Don. Thanks for commenting. Here is another shot of the Porta Nigra taken late afternoon before it was lit up. No real processing applied. You are right about the colour/saturation as far as it looks in natural light. In fact it is quite black looking, quite appropriate given its name.
However, once it is lit up it takes on the golden look that you refer to, as do the shops in the vicinity.
So bottom line is that I think the version I posted originally depicts it fairly accurately once night falls.. but I understad your point. Derek
