I shoot b/w street photography in downtown Los Angeles. I came across these fellows a couple days ago in a alley of storefronts, under an awning. The light was excellent. They weren't so happy about the shot, but that's the life of a street photographer.
The story behind this will be very interesting. This, in my mind, is an outstanding shot in all respects. It will be difficult to do better with a full set of studio lights. I wish we could have chosen some photos on merit to be judged again. This would surely be chosen.
Great - honest capture. Love the lighting, especially highlighting the man in front.
This could easily have been an image from a bygone era if it weren't for the modern looking sweater and the sneakers being worn by the man to the extreme left. To me, and this does not detract from the image as a whole, he looks out of place here. Like seeing the directer of a movie in a behind the scenes shot while his actors are in costume. The shorts and baseball cap wearing director just doesn't belong in the shot.
Well done. Thank you for sharing.

Wonderful photo with beautiful lighting. I like your composition with the empty space in the right part of the photo. When seeing the photo I start thinking about the story behind the guys being in the alley.
