I am curious about how to use the rule of thirds with framing-filling images in portrait orientation. Particularly when shooting and processing people/events such as weddings and sports where so many photographers intentionally fill the frame with the subject.

Here are a few examples from my gallery

These two images are not particularly tight shots and I used the rule of thirds more or less.

These images are tighter and the rule of thirds is not used in the crop and composition, but does it matter? Would images like these benefit from the rule of thirds?

I would like to hear (read) comments and perhaps see examples on this as it relates to tight portrait orientation.

Thanks
