What size and resolution is recommended for posting on Nikonians? I have reduced both to get to under 300KB, but then my image is small compared to other images that are posted here. I usually posting images from a D600 shot in raw and converted to jpg. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
It avoids scroll on many but not all monitors depending on the viewer's display settings. I have a 'helluva' time getting my photos to just fill my screen and most times 1200 pixel across is way too big. Also make sure the image size is 72 DPI.
"You won't get them to size easily without reducing to 72 DPI."
As Brian has stated, DPI (actually PPI) has no effect on images displayed on a screen. To display them, you need to re-size to the appropriate pixel dimensions and perhaps compress (lower the quality setting) them a little. Pixel dimensions are the only thing that determines size on screen. PPI only comes into play when an image is printed.
The PPI setting makes no difference to how an image displays on-screen - it only comes into play when printing. An image of (say) 900 x 600 pixels will look exactly the same on a monitor whether the PPI setting is 72, 300 or anything else.
