I have a 105mm f2.8 micro Nikkor , PN11 tube. I haven't use liveview so far on D800 for macro shots, but gave it a go. Do some of you use AF for macro work? do you use liveview? I was impressed by the usefulness of liveview in these conditions (I tried to use it for night work but found it useless then) and the sharpness of this old lens. here is just one shot of a flower which is probably no more that 5cm wide. f16 1/30s flash used - manual focus using liveview -cable release.
Thank you Alan. I see that you have the Tamron 90mm macro lens which is supposed to be very good. I was asking the question whether people use AF or not, as I was considering replacing my old AIS 105 micro lens by a new nikkor micro Af VR or by the same tamron lens you are using. You mention that you don't use AF much for macro: it is probably not that useful, but maybe VR with the Nikon lens could help. Jean-luc
Yes Jaydoc , indeed this shot is taken with the PN11 tube together with the manual AIS 105mm micro lens, using liveview. I am interested in your statement and will probably try a new 105mm micro lens Af VR before deciding to buy it, as it is quite expensive. Jean-luc
