So my high school varsity sports season is over and I'm on vacation over the 4th on the Outer Banks in North Carolina and I'm watching these kids with their boards. Of course I have my camera with me and ask them if they would mind if I take some shots. Turns out they were my neighbors down there in Kill Devil Hills. Fascinating watching them. Wish I had a different lens with me. This was with a 24-70, and I don't dare change lenses on the beach. Hope to get another shot at it when I return at the end of the month.

I'm surprised that you were able to get such good images with the 24-70. I'd be using one of your longer lenses to shoot surfing acton.
You win some sort of politeness award! Except for one occasion about six years ago when I was first getting into sports photography I can't remember ever acting anybody if they minded me taking some shots.

Well, it was a crowded beach on the 4th of July. It was also a great way to introduce myself and give his dad my card 😉
They were skim boards so not very far out and these are cropped. So the 24-70 was okay but I would rather not crop.
