During the regular basketball season the Pleasant Valley High girls team twice beat their cross-town Chico High rivals. PV High entered the Div. II championship game last Saturday night seeded #1 to play Chico seeded #2. PV hoped to make it three in a row over the Panthers, but a funny thing happened on the way to the final buzzer.
Since PV was the #1 seed I decided to photograph their action. By halftime Chico already had a 23-16 lead. By the end of the third quarter it was apparent that Chico was going to win the game, so I opted to concentrate on the Chico players for the remainder of the contest. PV made a late surge and pulled within 3 points of Chico with a little over a minute to go. Then two foul shots by Chico made it 46-41 in favor of the Panthers, and PV never got any closer.
Shots #1 and #2 were with D700 + 50mm. f/1.8 and the remainder were with 80-200 f/2.8.
Comments are welcome.
1. #14 for PV High goes for two of the game-high 20 points she scored for the Viking contingent. Opposing her is #22, the twin sister of the point guard on the Chico mens team which won the mens Division II title in the game that immediately followed this contest.
2. #14 shooting again. She dominated play for PV High.
