Sample image is the winning image from contest with “speed” as the theme in 2009.
This was the last member of a team who had to load a calf on a trailer and run to a group meeting point. It was a very dark rodeo arena with weird lights (notice the different colors on the lights at the top as they are in different cycles in the same shot). He really was running into a shadowed area, but I decided to leave it dark rather even it up for atmosphere.
D800, 1/50th, ISO 800, F2.8, 24-70 @ 29mm, handheld panning.
My favorite from last season at Road America D7000, 70-200/2.8, F/13, 1/60, 70mm, ISO 100
Road America in Wisconsin is a very wooded track, and I wanted a shot that would "tell the story" of the location. I had to pre-focus on the track through a gap in the trees, and had to start the pan by sound, even before I could really see the car Attachment#1 (jpg file)
